Founded by Dr Chetan Patel, Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeon and Robyn Midgley, Specialist Hand & Upper Extremity Therapist in September 2017.
Hand Consult SA is committed to delivering the highest standards of patient care by providing an integrated approach to the assessment, treatment, surgery and rehabilitation of hand and upper extremity injuries.

Chetan obtained his Fellowship in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery from the College of Surgeons of South Africa in 2009 (FC Plast Surg SA).
His undergraduate studies were completed at WITS University (Johannesburg) in 2000 and all his surgical training prior to registrarship in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery was done at the hospitals on the WITS Academic circuit. Chetan acquired his Masters in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in May 2013.
Chetan's interest in hand surgery has developed over the last 8 years. He has a significant experience in trauma hand surgery both from accidents and work related hand injuries. Subsequently Chetan has spent time with Dr Roger Nicholson, increasing his experience in elective hand surgery, gaining valuable insight into nerve compression syndromes, congenital hand problems and arthritis related hand conditions.
Over the last year Chetan has travelled extensively; as a travelling fellow of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand (ASSH), then to the Ganga Hospital in Coimbatore, India; gaining a wealth of experience in surgical and rehabilatative management of many hand problems.
Chetan is dedicated to his patients and provides emergency care to ensure specialist treatment.

Robyn Midgley

Robyn obtained her BSc (Hons) degree in Occupational Therapy at the University of the Witwatersrand and obtained both her British and European certifications in Hand Therapy.
Robyn worked at the prestigious Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust for 8 years where she treated orthopaedic and plastic surgery patients with traumatic and elective hand and upper limb injuries. Following on from this role, Robyn went on to pioneer the extended Scope Practitioners (ESP) role thereby enabling her to perform advanced clinical assessments, order specialist investigations such as MRI and CT scans, initiate treatment and take first line consent for surgery.
Robyn returned to South Africa to establish Hand Therapy Consulting in 2011. Robyn has developed credible relationships with hand surgeons where collaborative treatment plans are developed based on her trusted advice and expert opinion.
Robyn’s practice, Hand Therapy Consulting is based in Sandton, Johannesburg. The practice provides a sophisticated and calm environment that is conducive to healing. Sound clinical knowledge, advanced assessment skills coupled with innovative technology are used to meet the needs of patients and develop bespoke treatment plans that ensure maximum healing and avoid re-injury in the future.
