This 9 month old baby girl has a congenital duplication of her right thumb. The commonest duplication type is where the proximal phalanx is split in two. Normally there is a dominant and non-dominant thumb. Usually the radial thumb is removed with care taken to preserve the collateral ligaments and reconstruct them when closing the wound of the remaining thumb.
